Nutrition labeling: Dir 2008/100/EC – EU Directive update for energy and RDA’s
This Directive is an update of the Dir 90/496/EEC concerning the calculation of energy values in foodstuff and the Recommended Daily Allowances of vitamins and minerals.
Member states will bring into force by 31 October 2009 at latest their national regulations.
Trade of products that do not comply with the new legislation will be prohibited from 31 October 2012 on.
The calculation of energy values is now taking in account the fiber content (per gram: 2 kcal / 8 kJ).

What does this mean for you as BESTMIX® Food user?

First you will request your ingredient suppliers to deliver the missing nutritional information for the ingredients.
Update energy calculation: Modify the calculation rule for the energy values kcal and kJ. Those are managed as nutrient sums or as equations (on the level of ingredients or recipes).
Update the RDA’s: Add the missing nutrients, activate the nutrients with the nutrient selector, update the reference values in the RDA table (see Servings) and update your product specification template.
Do not hesitate to contact us in case you appreciate some assistance. A BESTMIX® Food consultant will help you to implement those changes.
