In the autumn of 2009, Microsoft launched Windows 7, the long-awaited successor to Windows Vista. Many customers, including Adifo itself, were somewhat reluctant to upgrade to Vista. The user interface is different from XP’s and, above all, many complaints surfaced regarding Vista’s performance. In order to run Vista, you basically needed a new laptop and even then, people reported frequent slowdowns.

With Windows 7, these issues are a thing of the past. Microsoft has, as it were, rebuilt the operating system, and this is more than noticeable in terms of speed and ease of use. Support for older hardware such as printers and the like is also excellent. And drivers for XP and Vista usually run perfectly on Windows 7.

 Supporting Adifo Products

Adifo always tests new software itself before recommending it to its customers. Adifo’s IT department has already been running Windows 7 since the start of 2009.

All Adifo products, including MILAS, BESTMIX, APROS, along with Adifo-Milas-AX, have been tested and approved on this platform.

Functional highlights

Performance: Windows 7 is faster than Windows XP, particularly with the new office environment and the new applications currently coming to market. In the new taskbar, the user can determine himself which programs he wants to start with a single mouse click.
It is very easy to drag windows around the desktop and arrange them automatically.

The mobile office: Managing documents, pictures, videos etc. is much easier as Windows 7 offers a single “My Documents” folder that combines everything in one window, regardless of the folder in which the documents are saved. You can even take folders from the network with you offline, so that you have constant access to your documents on your laptop when you are out of the office. The management of your network connections is very intuitive. Thanks to a number of new innovations, PCs and laptops use up to 30% less electricity.

Searching: The Windows Search window in Explorer enables you to search not only your own hard disk but also SharePoint, the intranet or websites that you have marked as important. By using tags, you can track down documents by keywords, instead of having to build a complex folder or name structure.

In conclusion

Switching over to Windows 7 will not take you much time if you have a little familiarity with Vista. The user interface is so intuitive that even migrating to Windows XP is unlikely to be a long process. If you wish, you can even set up the interface to look like Windows XP.

User testimonial

Reinhart De Lille, R&D Manager: “I get some 50 to 70 emails a day. Thanks to the new features in Outlook 2007, the speed of Windows 7 and the new Windows Explorer, I now save up to half an hour a day processing emails and documents.”
